RoDTEP, or the Remission of Duties and Taxes on Export Products, is a new program that became effective on January 1, 2021. It replaces the previous Merchandise Exports from India Scheme (MEIS). RoDTEP allows exporters to receive refunds on taxes and duties that were previously non-recoverable, with the goal of increasing exports, which had previously been low in volume. The program aims to support the export industry and boost exports.
Under the RoDTEP scheme, taxes such as Mandi tax, VAT, coal cess, and central excise duty on fuel will be refunded. The RoDTEP scheme encompasses all items previously covered under the MEIS (Merchandise Exports from India Scheme) and RoSTCL (Rebate of State and Central Taxes and Levies). These taxes and duties will now be eligible for refund under the RoDTEP scheme.
Refunds under the RoDTEP (Remission of Duties and Taxes on Export Products) scheme will be provided in the form of electronic, transferable scripts. These credits will be recorded and tracked using an electronic ledger system.
The digital platform enables quicker clearance of transactions through the use of an IT-based risk management system for the verification of exporter records. This helps to ensure the speed and accuracy of transaction processing.
Yes, the RoDTEP scheme covers all sectors, including Chemicals, in order to ensure uniformity across all areas. A dedicated committee will be established to determine the sequence of implementation across sectors, the extent of benefits to be provided to each sector, and related matters.
